An 18-seater bus has plunged into the Owena River along Akure-Ondo road in Ondo State.
According to an eyewitness account, the bus was commuting from Ondo to Akure
but lost control as a result of over speeding and fell off the bridge into the Owena river.
The witness further said that they rescued five of the passengers including a child and since taken to the hospital by motorists and men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The witness added that some of the passengers lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Ahmed Hassan confirmed the incident on

Hassan said that they were able to rescue seven of the passengers who are currently in the hospital receiving treatment.
However the current state of other wounded passengers are yet to be ascertained
Also stating that the number of casualties cannot be ascertained for now as men of the corps are still battling to rescue the victims.
He added that men of the command were still at the scene of the accident
“Yes, there is an accident where a bus plunged into the Owena River and our men are still at the scene for rescue, but we cannot ascertain the number of people that died or survived for now,” he said.
