Swiss watchmaker Arnold & Son has become well known for its “three-dimensional” approach to timepieces. This

week, the brand named for British watchmaking pioneer John Arnold once again channels that legacy, unveiling the

latest and most precious addition to its well-regarded Globetrotter collection of eye-catching world-timers,

the Globetrotter Gold.

The new model adopts the “globe on the wrist” design of the original 2018 Globetrotter, updating its distinctive style

with the namesake gold case and also an attractive blue dial. Its launch comes on the heels of several other releases by

Arnold & Son in 2021, most notably the Luna Magna, which feature’s the world’s largest three-dimensional moon

phase, and also the pièce unique launched in June for HSNY’s charity auction.

In terms of design, the Globetrotter Gold is essentially the same watch as the original 2018 release, featuring a large,

45-mm polished case, in this model executed in 18k red gold. The case serves primarily as a frame for the impressive

dial, and as such has a thin bezel, a tight, signed crown, and also relatively simple lugs connecting the watch to a hand-

stitched blue alligator leather strap secured by a matching gold buckle.

A rather large domed sapphire crystal covers the main attraction of this luxury watch, its three-dimensional globe-

motif dial. Along the outer edge, we find a lacquered outline produced in shades of sunburst blue, its background

featuring a slight fumé look and accented with applied and lume-filled rose-gold hour markers. At the center of the

dial, a rotating dome with a global map surface showcases rhodium-plated continents upon hand-painted blue

lacquered oceans and coasts. The globe rotates beneath the large, rose-gold flying bridge spanning the dial’s center

line, along with the red arrow hands that point to the hours and minutes on a 24-hour sapphire scale surrounding it. All

together, the arrangement gives the dial a 3D “floating” appearance unlike any other we’ve seen.

The back of the Globetrotter Gold offers an attractive display worthy of the one of the dial side. Behind its sapphire

window, we can also glimpse the beautifully finished Caliber A&S6022, an automatic movement completed with NAC

treatment throughout its various parts, along with circular finished wheels, Geneva stripes, and a guilloché-accented

and skeletonized 22k-rose-gold oscillating weight. The automatic caliber beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph and

amasses a 45-hour power reserve when fully wound.

The Arnold & Son Globetrotter Gold will be limited to 28 total editions, priced at $45,900.
