Buhari Asks Senate To Confirm Major General Yahaya As New COAS
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of Major
General Farouk Yahaya, as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
There have been reports that Buhari, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give
his request, expeditiously.
President Muhammdu Buhari has sent the name of Major General Farouk Yahaya, to the Senate for screening and also confirmation as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Buhari’s letter was read at the plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
However, Yahaya, if confirmed, will replace the Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash in Kaduna.
Prior to his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian
Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the
North East code named Operation HADIN KAI.
Buhari, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give his request, expeditiously.
However, Yahaya was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto state. He is also married and blessed
with children. He however, belongs to the Regular Course 37.
