Nestle Nigeria Plc on Thursday awarded a scholarship to qualified 23 students who met the required criteria for the Community scholarship scheme organized for Abaji Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Victoria Uwadoka while Speaking on Thursday at the launch of the Nestle Community Scholarship Scheme in Abuja said the scheme was meant to provide quality education to promising young students so as to improve their talents and technical know-how which will further enable the beneficiaries and their communities benefit from the opportunities.
“So what we have decided to do is to help give quality education to these children and really focus on their strength especially the science students we desire to have in the technical centres.”
”The reason why we are doing this is that we have established technical training centres which we wanted it to benefit communities closest to our factory but we could not find the right talents within the communities to fill these opportunities.
According to Uwadoka, the scheme was meant to offer a scholarship to both tertiary and secondary categories in which only 23 students were beneficiaries, 3students for the tertiary category and 20students for Senior Secondary category respectively were finally awarded.
She added that the continuation of the scholarship depends on the students` ability to meet up with the academic requirements set for the scheme and a student can forfeit his or her scholarship if the terms and condition are breached.
However, she stated that the awardees on completion of their academic session will undergo vocational training such as structural, mechanical and different parts of engineering at the Nestle technical training center.
“These young people will through this training for about 18months intensively, it includes both theory and practical”
“Selected best five then goes to Switzerland for a 3month training to intensify their studies, at the end of this training, Nestle place prepares them for the city and gills technical certification which is a global certification which can be used to work for international organizations.”
Secretary, Abaji Area Council, Kamal Suleiman in his remarks noted that the scholarship scheme was transparent and crystal clear as awardees were picked base on merit.
He thereby implores all students to sit up and make good use of the opportunity as his leadership will always ensure that the synergy between the Abaji community and Nestlé PLC brings development to the community.
One of the Beneficiaries, Jeremiah Iganga while expressing his gratitude to Nestle Plc noted that the scholarship scheme will enable him more studious and dedicate to work.
