The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in collaboration with the Kano state government and the seven state Governors of the North West region is organizing an Empowerment Training programme in Kano State, on Mentoring and Life Enhancement for Youths Living With Disabilities (YLWDs).
According to a press statement signed by the Director of Press Lere-Adams, on Monday, the mentorship programme is designed to accommodate one hundred and twenty (120) Youths Living With Disabilities from the seven (7) states of the North-West Geo-political zones, including physiological, functional and /or mobility impairments) visual and hearing disabilities.
Parts of the statement reads; “In furtherance of its avowed determination to support and assist young men and women living with disabilities (as enshrined in the National Youth Policy) gain adequate access and opportunity to participate fully in the society, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will empower twenty (20nos.) Youths Living With Disabilities from the North West Zone, for self-reliance and as alternative to begging for alms.
“The programme which is aimed and targeted at YLWDs from the Northern Zone, is meant to increase the level of awareness of the public to accommodate Youths With Disabilities aspiring to political offices and also, ensure their participation in economic, social and cultural spheres, with equal opportunities and will feature pitching/presentation of business ideas by the successful candidates and; presentation of Awards/Grants to 20 best proposals.
“His Excellency, the Kano State Governor and the other seven Governors of the North-West, the Ministers of Youth and Sports Development, Women Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Permanent Secretaries of Youth and Sports at the Federal and State levels and Directors of Youth and Sports from states shall be at the opening ceremony.”
